Between the 24th and the 29th of October 2021 we hosted a youth exchange project entitled “MUC: Music, Union and Culture”.
The KA1 erasmus project brought together 48 young participants between 18 and 30 years old, from 8 different European countries: Germany, Lithuania, Greece, Italy, Portugal, England, France and Spain. Each group was formed by 5 people lead by a team leader and it has been great to involve participants with fewer opportunities, victims of geographic, social or economic obstacles.
The purpose of “MUC” project has been to unify through music young people from different countries, contexts, roots and cultures, intensifying the tolerance of the participants and therefore of the interested ones, that once the project ended, they can be interested in the results of it. Music is an art that manages to transmit states and emotions, that does not understand languages or barriers, so it is a key instrument for twinning between individuals, making them more supportive and tolerant.
Teamwork has been strengthened, so that they know how to share ideas and overcome obstacles, through support and understanding. The activities of this exchange have served to extend the intercultural dialogue between young people of the EU, and in each activity, there have been different teams so that everyone knows each other and works together to overcome any obstacles. Almost all the activities took place outdoors, a way for the participants to know and enjoy the city, as well as involving the citizens, locals and visitors in the project.
The participants were accommodated in the Hostel Generator Madrid, located in the heart of the city centre, very close to the busy Gran Vía, on the corner of Calle de Silva and Calle de San Bernardo. Walking out the door, you will have no shortage of options to choose from: cultural centres, artistic epicentres, the busiest bars, as well as the best restaurants in the city.
At the end of the experience we could achieve another objective: to improve the future of the participants, helping them, through the tools acquired during the exchange to strengthen their ideas and thereby build a good working future, thus developing a broader and more open vision of what it means “European identity” to promote responsible citizenship.
