Between 15 and 20 November 2021 the city of Madrid was the venue for the youth exchange entitled “UNIEUROPE”.
The Erasmus KA1 project brought together 48 young participants aged between 16 and 30 from 8 different European countries: Italy, Spain, Croatia, France, Portugal, Romania, Poland and Greece; each group consisted of 5 people led by a team leader and there was a wide variety of cultures, ethnicities and ages, including children with fewer opportunities.
The aim was to focus attention on the importance of raising young people’s awareness of their belonging to Europe and the benefits of the European Union. To support the idea of this Youth Exchange, we wanted to promote a platform for enhancing dialogue between young people, sharing European values and improving new skills and tools by working in teams and using non-formal education methods.
We organised a series of activities, all related to the theme of the project, which took place in a recreational environment, open spaces and outdoor venues. In this way, we have engaged citizens and spread our message of a unified Europe. After increasing the feeling of belonging to the European Union and learning about the benefits of a united, beneficial and tolerant Europe, the participants were able to share this knowledge in their home societies.
Participants stayed at the Hostal Generator Madrid, located in the heart of the city centre, very close to the busy Gran Via, on the corner of Calle de Silva and Calle San Bernardo. When you walk out the door, you will be spoilt for choice: cultural centres, artistic epicentres, the busiest bars, as well as the best restaurants in the city.
At the end of the experience, the students were very happy to have collected testimonials from fellow students of other nationalities about what it means to be European citizens.
They all had a great time in Madrid, visiting and discovering the city as well.
